Growing Your Hair Out
We grow our hair out to cut it again. It’s the evolution of change. Trends are cyclical and all day I am asked by my clients “should I cut it?” Or “should I grow it long?” Our hair keeps growing thankfully for most of us and we get to make those fun decisions to grow it or cut it?? Whether it’s a bad haircut you are growing out or you just want to add some length to that luscious hair, I’m gonna give you some helpful suggestions that may help you on your journey of growth.
One main thing you can do is cut certain parts of your hair to reshape it and allow your hair to still be trendy and fun while you grow the actual length out. For example if you are growing out a short pixie then I would suggest cutting the length until u can catch a lot of the layers up to be almost one length again to create a cute little bob.
Another option is cut a cute fringe or bangs to create some interest around the face if you are bored with the rest of your hair. It also elongates the rest of your hair by drawing the eye up. It doesn’t always have to be your basic straight across bang to have an adorable fringe. You could do curtain bangs, a side bang, full bang or just some short layers that fall around the cheekbone.
Another option is shorter layers. If your hair is one length, like a bob, you can mix it up with some shorter layers while you grow out the length. You could do a trendy shag or just cut around the face with super short layers and create some ponytail pieces around the face. “Ponytail pieces” (the fringe area around the face) these parts would fall out of a ponytail if you were to put your hair up to frame the face. This can be coupled with a bang or fringe of some sort or just be layers on their own. It’s a fun way to create some shape and style around your face, jaw and cheekbones while growing your hair out. Sometime when we are growing out our hair, we may not be in love with the style and will rely on wearing our hair up while our hair grows at that snails pace of a 1/2 of an inch per month (faster in the summer though)
Speaking of wearing your hair up, why don’t I give you some inspiration as to what you could do with your hair while the time passes. You could wear a hat or a head band with your hair down underneath or in a low bun or braids down the sides. You can also learn to do a quick updo which can be as easy as a braid in the front that is coupled with a low bun or some small twists in the front coupled with a low bun. I also like using a claw clip of any kind to wear my hair up. It cascades over the clip and is more of a loose classic look. A ponytail is always on the table when it comes to options but I like to do it high on the head and leave some hair down around the face to soften it. The classic bun is always an easy one but not my favorite because it looks pretty lazy and sloppy unless you leave some ponytail pieces out around the face and make sure your make up is done well that day.
I like to live by a little rule while getting ready for the day. My rule is If you are going to wear your hair up, I always give my makeup more attention. Then if you are wearing your hair down and curling it or styling it fresh out of the shower, then I usually will go lighter on my makeup. I like to give more attention to one or the other to make my life a little easier. Get creative with it so you don’t get bored, do braids, use a scrunchy or bobby pins or some cute clips for a change!
So we’ve covered cutting it differently to help with the grow out, trying different hairstyles, reaching for a hat or a headband, my last suggestion would be to try styling it differently with your hot tools. Use a larger or smaller iron. You could try a wand (curling iron without a clip) or a flat iron or waving iron. Try sectioning your hair differently to get different outcomes while curling, horizontal section vs. vertical section. Wear your hair half up and half down, Get creative! Try not to get stuck in a rut with your hair.
I hope this provided you with some great ideas! Don’t take your hair too seriously, have fun and lean into your own authentic beauty, until next time…
